One good thing about social media (yes, there are good things about it) is encountering wisdom and insights that others share with the world. I saw the following post the other day on x.com (formerly Twitter). It rang my bell because I have family members who have succumbed to the gender-fluidity, gender-affirming nonsense afflicting our society. Here’s the post.
“Non-binary is a made-up. It’s very stupid existence as a ‘term’ actually creates a binary system of binary and non-binary. Lol. Transgenderism is made up. No one can truly transition. One’s chromosomes do not change. You’re either male or female. Get with the program. Sanity is back in charge.” (@Niknakgirl123, March 3, 2025, X.com)
I thought it was good, so I reposted it on my Facebook page. I didn’t expect any blowback because, sadly, those family members who embrace transgenderism have already severely limited or completely cut off communication with me. I did, however, get one small response from a relative whose college-age offspring is exploring their gender fluidity. It was a simple screed:
“WWJD”
I know what they meant. It was a typical Minnesota passive-aggressive way of trying to shut me up. Based on my experience, this is what was implied: “Your post was not very Jesus-like. Jesus was all about loving people and accepting them for who they are. He would embrace them, comfort them, and care for them because of who they are. Jesus would never say something so mean. He ate with sinners, you know. So, if you’re going to be like Jesus, don’t post something so hurtful.”
All that tells me is they don’t have a clue about what the whole Bible says. Truth be told, that response annoyed me. Why? Because I’m sick of the world using Jesus’ love to justify sin and to shut down Christians from speaking against abnormal sexuality.
WWJD? According to the transgender movement, Christians are to “Just love them. Don’t confront them because intervening is not the loving thing to do. It hurts their feelings. It confuses and depresses them. We all have our own truth. You’re harshing their buzz. Love them, fellowship with them, and don’t say anything that will show that you’re anything else but loving and accepting of their struggle to discover, explore, and follow their “true selves.”
All that tells me is the people who use WWJD as a defense against Christians really don’t know the Bible – at all.
Yeah. What Would Jesus Do?
Because of the WWJD response to my Facebook post, I thought I’d do a quick study through Matthew’s Gospel to see what Jesus would do. What would He say to the gender-confused person? Let’s go for a walk through Matthew’s Gospel, along with samplings from the other three Gospels, to find out WWJD.
Jesus would be loving.
Jesus would love the gender-confused person without condoning their sin or encouraging their mental illness. Jesus’ love would compel Him, His compassion would move Him, and His mercy would cause Him to act to restore the gender-confused person to what His Father intended (Matthew 9:36, 14:14, 20:34).
Jesus would also embrace gender-confused people but declare that they must repent (Matthew 4:17) and live life His way (Matthew 16:24). By that, He means living according to His Father’s will.
Jesus would declare the primacy of His Father’s will.
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that only those who do His Father’s will are in the Father’s kingdom (Matthew 7:21) and aligned with Him (Matthew 12:50). So, where would a gender-confused person find the Father’s will for them?
Jesus would affirm that the Father’s word reveals His will.
Jesus would affirm and apply His Father’s commands and will for humanity. That would include all commands forbidding cross-dressing and any sexual activity outside of the one man-one woman marriage format (Matthew 5:17; Deuteronomy 22:5). Jesus would not affirm any homosexuality, gender-bending attempts, transitioning, or cross-dressing. (Gender transition surgery is the epitome of cross-dressing.) Jesus would also rebuke any person who twists His words or His Father’s commands through flawed interpretation or application, thus negating them (Matthew 15:3,6; Mark 7:8-9,13).
Jesus would say that the Father’s will is seen in His original design.
Jesus would affirm that His Father’s design is strictly binary genders, male and female only (Matthew 19:4-6).
Jesus would affirm that His Father’s will and word include all the commands about human sexual identity and expression.
Jesus would hold all people, Christians, and non-Christians, gender-confused and not, to the same standard of His Father’s will as revealed through His commands (Matthew 7:21).
Jesus would tell gender-confusion-affirming ministers that their teaching is incompatible with His teaching [the old/new cloth illustration] and that His teaching can be retained and followed only if the recipient is genuinely spiritually regenerated [new wine into new wineskins illustration] (Matthew 9:16-17). Jesus would categorically reject any humanistic teaching or philosophy that violates or nullifies His Father’s commands (Matthew 15:3-6).
Jesus would say that He expects people, especially His disciples, to obey God’s word.
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person not to give in to temptation because it would violate His Father’s will (Matthew 4:1-11). He would tell them to stop sinning. Sin is any action that violates His Father’s will (John 8:11).
Jesus would warn the gender-confused person and those who encourage them of the consequences of their ungodly behavior (Matthew 5:22,29-30). He would warn them that there is judgment coming for those who reject God (Matthew 24:). Jesus would also warn them that those who are in His kingdom are safe forever, and those who aren’t will be rejected and removed forever (Matthew 13:47-50).
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person and those who encourage them to stop listening to false prophets, i.e., “open and affirming” ministers, psychiatrists, therapists, and counselors (Matthew 7:15).
Jesus would rebuke the hypocrisy of using God’s word to mask ungodly behavior (Matthew 23:17). Jesus would excoriate those who put up a mask of righteousness but don’t live righteously. This rebuke pertains to those who claim to be Christians yet affirm and practice aberrant sexuality (Matthew 23:27-28).
Jesus would tell everyone that they may claim He’s their Lord, but if they refuse to obey Him, He’s not actually their Lord (Matthew 7:21). Jesus would tell the gender-confused person and those who encourage them that He is to be obeyed without compromise (Matthew 6:24 principle).
Jesus would tell them that if their lives aren’t aligned with the standard of His word, their lives will be inherently unstable (Matthew 7:24-27).
Jesus would offer help and healing.
Jesus would get to the heart of a person’s gender confusion and sexual immorality (Matthew 15:18-20, 5:28). He would reassure the gender-confused person that only by surrendering to His way would they find rest, unlike what humanistic philosophies and determinations offer. Such humanistic ideas include queer theory, gender-fluidity philosophies, etc. (Matthew 11:29-30).
Jesus would show the gender-confused person that He can forgive their sin and can heal anything (Matthew 9:1-7). He would also tell them that real change comes from within (spiritual transformation and obedience), not outwardly [transitioning, cross-dressing according to one’s feelings or abnormal thoughts] (John 3:3-6).
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that no one is beyond His willingness and power to help, no matter how far outside of God’s boundaries they may be (Matthew 15:21-28). Jesus would encourage the gender-confused person that He will have compassion and mercy on those who genuinely seek Him and His help (Matthew 20:29-34).
Jesus would reassure the gender-confused person that despite their resistance, He will continue to pursue them (Luke 15:1-10).
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that He is willing to help them, but they have to trust Him and that no condition is impossible for Him to change (Matthew 9:27-30). Jesus would say they need to trust Him with a child-like trust (Matthew 18:1-4). He would tell them that if they refuse to trust Him, His power to facilitate change is hindered (Matthew 13:58).
Jesus would break demonic influence over the gender-confused person if that were the cause or a contributing factor toward their thoughts or feelings. He would break the demon’s hold and drive it away (Matthew 8:28-32). Jesus would also heal the gender-confused person’s mind as He did with the Gadarene demoniac (Mark 5:14-16; Luke 8:35).
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that He died so they could be free from sin (John 8:32,36). Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that He suffered and died for them to be healed in all ways – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically (Matthew 8:16-17). While some of this healing happens now, all born-again believers will realize complete restoration in the afterlife per God’s design.
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that His resurrection from the dead proved His Father could transform even a dead person to life. How much more can God’s power do for a living person who is broken by a sinful nature or struggling with sinful habits? Even if the gender-confused person’s name is already “dead,” Jesus’ resurrection power can “resurrect” them from “death” and restore them (Matthew 28:5-6).
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that there is a cost to following Him. They would have to reject aberrant thoughts and feelings about gender-fluidity and human sexuality, surrender to His standard, and reject the world’s gender-affirming care philosophies and counseling (Matthew 8:18). Jesus would tell them that if they’re serious about following Him, they’ll have to deny themselves and surrender everything in their lives to enter His kingdom (Matthew 16:24).
Jesus would tell a gender-confused person that they are to put Him above family, friends, and social pressure regarding “gender fluidity” and aberrant sexuality. He would warn them that doing so would bring division between them and family, friends, and society because of His message about living God’s way (Matthew 10:32-39).
Jesus would tell the gender-confused person that He will always be with those who are His (Matthew 28:20).
Jesus would teach His followers how to reach out to the gender-confused person.
Jesus would tell us to “love our enemies” and still not endorse or justify sin or aberrant behavior (Matthew 5:43-44). He would remind His disciples that they are to love everyone regardless of anything (Matthew 5:43-44). Jesus would not allow His disciples to hate another person because hateful thoughts lead to hateful actions (Matthew 5:21-22).
Jesus would tell Christians to make sure they are walking right with Him before offering help to the gender-confused (Matthew 7:3-5). Jesus would tell the Christian to keep seeking His help in reaching out to the gender-confused person, especially if their help is rejected, even with vitriol (Matthew 7:7-8).
There you have it. From my perspective and study, that’s what Jesus would do for a gender-confused person and those who encourage them.
So, if you’re trying to justify the whole gender-confusion issue, whether you’re someone struggling personally or you’re a family member or friend of one who is working through the issue, please stop using “WWJD” or “love” to justify your position if it stands against God’s standard.
Read the Bible. You’ll know WWJD.
